Before you decide to join Texture Trails, it's helpful to understand what to expect,
where the meeting point is, who your guide will be, and other details.
Below is the information.
Saturday 4th May
These are drop-in sessions, so you can arrive
at St. Mary's Church in Rhossili anytime between 11am and 3pm
& there will be no need to book your place.
Before starting your walk, visit the church to pick up a guide sheet.
It will contain prompts for exploring Rhossili's beauty.
During your walk, capture images of textures that catch your eye.
You can remember them, take photos with your phone, or use a journal.
Remember if you want to document these, bring a small book with paper and a pencil or pen for documenting your discoveries. Perhaps you will want to bring a small bag to gather items along the way to bring back to the hub?
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

After collecting the textures that caught your attention, you'll start making handmade texture paper using dry media like pencils, pastels, pens, coloured paper, and plain paper. Concentrating on the colours, patterns and shapes, you'll create a variety of handmade textures to incorporate into your abstract artwork.
All materials will be provided.
Using both your handmade texture pieces of paper and a selection of magazines, you'll start crafting an A6/ A5 abstract collage similar
to the one displayed in the photo.
No prior experience in art or collaging is necessary as you'll be guided through the process step by step by an experienced artist.
Once you finish the collage, you'll get an A5 sleeve to protect your artwork.
Collage has proven to have incredible benefits for a persons overall health and wellbeing. In the book Collage Care: Transforming Emotions and Life Experiences with Collage, Collage artist and Arts Practitioner Laurie Kayner says this,
“Collage helps to motivate the pleasure centres of the brain to release happy hormones. One such hormone, dopamine is often associated with the anticipation of happiness, pleasure and achieving a goal. The brain releases endorphins when making collage. Endorphins are known to decrease pain and stress helping you to preserve in trying circumstances. When a person is participating in collage there is so much to focus on in the activity that there’s no room left for anything else to pop up in your mind.
It completely empties your mind of any bad thing and allows you
to be fully present in the moment of just simply creating.”
During this time, you will be participating in all aspects of the Five Ways to Wellbeing [They were created by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) in 2008]
Connecting with others, staying active on your walk, taking notice of nature's textures, learning something new with collage, and giving to yourself by taking time out—will be beneficial for your overall wellbeing.
